2011 Hyundai Elantra on sale

Hyundai Elantra
Kah Bintang is now selling the latest Hyundai Elantra here in Malaysia. Under the hood is an inline-4 2.0 liter DOHC CVVT engine producing 143 PS at 6,000rpm and 186Nm of torque at 4,600rpm. It is mated to a 4-speed automatic. This is not the nice GEMA-based 2.0 unit in the Kia Optima, but a different family. It uses an electric power steering system.

The car rides on 16 inch alloy wheels with 205/55R16 tyres, and uses McPherson struts at the front, and a multi link suspension at the rear. Brakes are discs all round, with the front being ventilated. Turning radius is 5.17 meters, while the car’s wheelbase is 2,650mm. The 6 speaker audio system plays CD/MP3/WMA, and has aux input for you to hook up your external music device like iPods and etc. The interior is done up in leather, which includes the steering wheel, driver armrest and shift knob. Climate control is automatic. The steering wheel is both tilt and telescopic adjustable.

Safety features include dual SRS airbags, anti-lock brakes, front seatbelt pretensioners with force limiter, and electronic brakeforce distribution. The door locks unlock automatically upon impact. The car scored a 5-star crash test rating for the US NHTSA front impact test.

Kah Bintang says the new Hyundai Elantra managed to go from JB to Butterworth with a 53 liter tank of fuel – that’s a distance of about 746km.

The new Hyundai Elantra is priced at RM91,208.10 OTR without insurance.

New Infiniti by Nissan

The arrival of Infiniti into Europe could end up being a timely one. The fragile economy has somewhat forced us to question our want for extravagant gestures of consumption. And, nothing could be more conspicuous a commodity than the personal motorcar.

This luxury marque from Nissan is fresh off the boat from US shores where it has been enjoying success for nearly 20 years. Headquartered near Geneva, Infiniti was introduced across Europe in 2008, with right hand drive cars arriving in the UK in 2009. With a small portfolio of high performance cars, the company hopes its subtle take on luxury will have Japanese cultural and aesthetic heritage at its core.

‘It is the seductive alternative,’ remarks Nissan Group Design Director Shiro Nakamura, the man who directed the Infiniti brand’s Euro launch with immaculate such precision from a studio outside Tokyo. Nakamura’s astute vision has not only shaped the cars, but also the architecture of the showrooms — even the design of the staff business cards was signed off by him. Nissan is aware that Infiniti will have to work as an entire package from the word go if it’s to make an impact in a market where brand snobbery often dictates consumer choice.

The Euro line-up boasts two SUVs. At the very top sits the FX, including the flagship V8-powered FX50 unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The smaller, more city-friendly EX37 compact coupe crossover has also been styled entirely with Europe in mind. “The crossovers are stronger in design and more European in finish,” admits Nakamura. Infiniti will also offer the G37 saloon and coupĂ©, with a convertible that is due to be unveiled at the LA Motor Show later this month.

Europeans have different demands, and with this in mind a team of ten specialist engineers have re-engineered the Infiniti brand to add more ‘driveability’ – these customers expect a much higher standard of handling, especially in the premium sector. Attention to detail was exhaustive, including fine-tuning the exhaust note so that the quality of the sound is more appealing to ears reared on sporty engines.

According to Nakamura the Infiniti brand is ’sexually neutral’. He elaborates by saying “we are aiming for wide acceptance.” In other words, these are cars for both men and women. The design language, he says, was inspired by nature. “This is its Japanese DNA,” he says, adding by way of explanation, ‘for me it is equivalent to the Kimono or the Samurai sword. Nissan, on the other hand, is like Japanese Anime. The modern, mechanical side is represented through Nissan, and old Japanese culture through Infiniti. Infiniti respects the rules like classical music, Nissan breaks them like jazz.’

There are more elements of traditional design at play. Purple is the colour of Japanese royalty, yet it is also a key colour for the Infiniti brand, used sparingly as mood lighting in the cars and in discrete splashes in the showrooms. Elements of the ‘old Japan’ Nakamura refers to can be detected after closer inspection of the cars, like the sculpted piano black wood panel inside the FX’s door. Elsewhere, Washi paper (Wagami or Japanese paper) inspired the treatment of the metal panels; there is a feel of intricate craftsmanship throughout the cabin design.

New Bentley – 800hp ASI Tetsu GTR, The Bentley Continental GT is a quite superb car with its 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 engine pumping out 552hp, new tuning kit from Japanese tuning firm TSI featuring a golden livery complete with flowers, all over the hood, the Japanese tuning house has at least gone to work to create a more aggressive wide body kit made of ASI’s dry carbon. The engineers have also tackled the engine by enhancing the turbochargers and exhaust system along with a bit of ECU tuning bringing the total output to an over-the-top 800hp.

Branew will also be displaying its complete exterior kit that will also be offered in carbon-fiber. The kit consists of a front spoiler, side skirts, rear spoiler and a rear wing. To complement the body-kit, Branew will also offer a set of multispoke alloys in various sizes. Expect performance to be improved over the standard car as Branew has developed a new sports exhaust system and reprogrammed the ECU of the 3.7-liter V6 powerplant. And to help manage all that upgraded power, Branew has upgraded the brake system and added a new sport suspension kit.

Nissan R35 GT-R, The 350Z demo car from Mine’s is their only naturally aspirated car. The car has 350ps thanks to a fully reworked engine with forged pistons, higher compression and a new VX-rom ECU. Mine’s also enhanced the exterior with some nice carbon goodies like the rear spoiler, front spoiler and the air scoop. The famous Mine’s N1 R34 GT-R is being worked after some laps on the circuit. The car became famous after its record braking time on Tsukuba; 0:57,746. You have to remember that this car is still street legal and can compete with full blown race cars. The car wasn’t build with high horsepower figures in mind, but instead it was build as the ultimate road going car.

Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS

Based on a Corvette chassis and using a 670 HP supercharged LS7, the Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS claims to be the first folding hardtop four-door supercar. With a class that specific, we don’t doubt it. The bizarre panel hinging from the rear 3/4 panel appears to be a door, rather than a roof support, so we’re not sure what the roof looks like, but since we’ve always hankered after a 205 MPH, four-door convertible Corvette that handles like a boat, we’ll let that one slide.

The designers put in a retractable hard-top which can open or close in just 20 seconds. Built without B-pillars and having a two-tone paint job, the car is meant to have taken inspiration from luxury yachts. Body panels are made from carbon-fiber, and the chassis is built from chrome steel. Inside, the driver is treated to a nice layout of alcantara, aluminum, and carbon-fiber. Meanwhile, the floorboard is made from teak wood, which will look interesting if left unupholstered. Although commonly used on yachts, and thus keeping with the boat motif, a lighter-weight material probably could have been chosen for the floor if some form of carpeting will cover it up.

Regardless, with a Corvette ZR1 powertrain, weight is still relatively low at 1,280 kg. Custom-made Tenzo 19-inchers are wrapped in Toyo T1R tires. Braking is provided by DBM, using eight-piston and four-piston monoblocks, gripping 380mm or 355mm discs.

Companies lending their assistance to the project includes Eindhoven, Netherlands, based Motio development, who aided with the 3D modelling. Komplot Mechanics supplied the foam moulds, while Rep-air Composites assisted with the body panels. Steel juggernaut Corus provided materials for the chassis.
Pop and de Boer expect to produce 20 units of the Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS, at a rate of four annually. They are actively looking for investors, and hope to begin production by 2010.

2011 Hyundai Elantra With Small Car Big Style Concept

http://www.auto4fans.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/2011_Hyundai_Elantra_05.jpg
After its home market unveiling earlier this year, Hyundai has taken the wraps off its 2011 Hyundai Elantra sedan at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The compact sedan promises lots – 40 mpg at a starting price of under $15,000 before destination.

Hyundai, with its small-engined fleet of fuel-savvy bruisers, seems downright giddy at the news. The Korean manufacturer has announced that by the time 2025 rolls around, the company will have a corporate average fuel economy of 50 mpg. The groundwork for that dramatic increase is being laid right now with vehicles like the Sonata Hybrid and the most recent addition to the Hyundai stable, the 2011 Elantra.

http://www.auto4fans.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/2011_Hyundai_Elantra_01.jpg
The last-generation Elantra debuted four short years ago, but in the meantime, competition in the American small-car market has increased by leaps and bounds. Additions like the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze and the upcoming 2012 Ford Focus have proven that domestic manufacturers are just as serious about producing compact, high-quality vehicles with excellent fuel economy as the long-reigning titans of the segment from Honda and Toyota. With its 40 mpg highway rating, stylish exterior and excellent drivetrain, the 2011 Hyundai Elantra is set to put the rest of the segment on notice.

http://www.auto4fans.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/2011_Hyundai_Elantra_14.jpg
The 2011 Hyundai Elantra is powered by the company's new 1.6L Gamma Gasoline Direct Injection engine that develops 140 PS and 17.0kg/m of torque.  the engine is coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a front wheel drive system.  Hyundai claims the new Elantra is 10% more fuel efficient in comparison to its direct competitors.

The equipment list for the 2011 Hyundai Elantra includes HID (high intensity discharge) headlamps, LED combination lamps in the rear, heated rear seats, puddle lamps and a color TFT LCD informatin display.

The Elantra's interior bears a likeness to the Sonata's cabin, though with slightly more sci-fi look. It looks like it might combine some of the best of cockpit-style layouts with more open ones, as it pinches quite narrow up at the top for more knee room. The nav and sound system controls are up high, along with the nav screen, while climate controls are just below. Nice, round analog gauges sit directly ahead of the driver, as well as a set of steering-wheel controls. Instrument panels have a two-tone look, with hazy metallic trim.

We expect to know more in the fall, when the American auto show season kicks off with the November Los Angeles Auto Show.
